Comparing Nene Prints
PreviousNext
Below the line are:
- Nene In Ohelo and Kukaenene by Marian Berger.
- Bernicla sandvicensis by Frederick Frohawk.
- Hanalei Revisited (Nene) by Patrick Ching.
- My photograph of a Nene at Kilauea Point.
Comparison of the Frohawk print with my photograph shows these are obviously the same species. The stylization in the print makes the neck pattern more regular than reality. As usual, the background of the print is more lovely than that of my photo. The bird photo shows a bit more brown high on the cheeks. Overall, I'd say pretty close!
Of the three prints here, Patrick Ching's Nene appears the most realistic when compared to the photo of a Nene. There is definitely more brown on the cheek than on the bird I photographed.
Marian's Giclee print also comes close to the real bird. Compared to the individual bird I photographed, the brown on the cheeks is again a bit accentuated, but certainly closer to reality than the Frowhawk print. And then comes my personal taste: I really enjoy the composition, color and clarity of Marian's style. Lucky me!
