Mamo - Hawaiian O'o - Fringillidae Drepanis pacifica

An original painted in 1994. I could easily have placed this and the next image with my other "Originals," but wanted instead to add to the "Birds with Artifacts" category. The artifact is a wood tiki, probably carved from milo wood. I have as yet been unable to determine the significance of the tiki.

The Nukupu'u (Fringillidae Hemignathus lucidus) is a close relative of the Akialoa (Fringillidae Hemignathus obscurus), and one of many extinct members of the family/genus Fringillidae Hemignathus.
