Akialoa - Fringillidae Hemignathus obscurus

A lithograph not dated, probably from around 1990.

Unlike most of her lithographs, which show the endemic birds of Hawaii in their natural habitat, this one shows a now-extinct akialoa in a human environment. I love the colors and composition. The orchids, papaya, ginger?, kettle, fence, shell, and bathing suit just belong together with the Akialoa (presumably attracted to the papaya).

From various websites: believed to be extinct.
