Akiapola'au - Fringillidae Hemignathus munroi

From the US Audubon Society website: "A member of the Hawaiian honeycreeper family (Drepanididae) that has evolved to fill the niche occupied by woodpeckers in many other parts of the world. Endangered and found only on the island of Hawaii."

Marian Berger's paintings of the Akiapola'au can be found on my website at: 1985 Lithographs, 1990 Lithographs, Living Endemic, and the Marion Collection.
