As with the apapane comparison, I find the fluffy 'I'iwi by Marian to be more beautiful than the Frohawk print. As with the apapane, a search of 'I'iwi photos on the internet reveals that 'I'iwi do indeed fluff up as depicted by Marian.
Marian's prize-winning 'I'iwi Up Close is in another category: pure art. It is so different from the majority of her work that it took me a while to love it, but love it I do.
The bright background and overall bright appearance of Robert's 'I'iwi will appeal to many (such as myself). Very beautiful, it is in a category by itself compared to the other images.
Clearly Marian is more interested in doing beautiful portraits (and occasional pairs) of birds. The print by Frohawk shows a female 'I'iwi in addition to the bright red males, very helpful to birders. Robert's print shows more emphasis on the foliage than the other images.
I have noticed that 'I'iwi are portrayed as any color from cherry red to bright orange. Jack Jeffrey's two photos show the range quite well, so obviously individual 'I'iwi and the lighting make a big difference. Also, I cannot but comment again on Jack's drop-dead beautiful photo of an 'I'iwi singing its heart out.
Finally, the white at the top of the wings varies in detail across all the images.
