There is beautifully sharp work in water colors (Marian) and gouache (Robert). The print by Frohawk is much more stylized, more in the style of Audubon, although in some senses all these images follow after Audubon. In fact, to me Frohawk's work looks (by far) the least like the live bird.
The photograph by Jack Jeffrey is interesting. The 'Akohekohe is not so neat or precise as indicated in all the paintings. There is variation in the crests, with Frohawk's work most closely matching the individual bird photographed by Jack.
