Comparing an Original and Giclee

PreviousNext

Beneath the horizontal line are my scan and crop of Marian Berger's original Laysan Finches and Shell and its Giclee by Mo Media. The original is on top.

My comments are reasonably well reflected by the images below, but are based upon a direct visual comparison of the actual original with the Mo Media giclee.

In the case of Laysan Finches with Shell, the colors are remarkably accurately reproduced. Any extra brightness one way or the other is an artifact of my scanning. But the difference is in the detail: the original is more detailed and sharp. Look at the facial lines on both finches, the markings on the shell, and the claws on the bird in front of the shell; there is clearly a bit more sharpness/detail in the original, especially when the two are held side by side.

Finally, as promised, the only text on the original is Marian's signature in watercolor. The print reproduces the watercolor signature, but in addition bears the print number and length of run (1/500), the title Laysan Finches, and a second signature, all in pencil.
