Lois H. Simon

Obituary


Lois H. Simon, 86, of John Druce Lane, Wrentham, died on Friday June 26, 2009 in Wrentham. She was the beloved widow of Philip Simon, whom she married on March 23, 1946.

Born in Westport, she was a loving daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Brightman) Pettey. A long time Westport resident, she was a graduate and Class Salutorian in the Westport High School Class of 1940. She also graduated from the F. G. Allen School of Business in Fall River.

Prior to retirement, Lois had been a book keeper and accountant for 44 years with the A.G. & W.J. Howland Insurance in Fall River. She had served as a business manager with at the Truesdale Clinic in Fall River, and was a licensed tax preparer as well.

Service oriented, she enjoyed volunteering at an The Infant Wellness Clinic, and as a Docent at the New Bedford Whaling Museum. Active in Church life, she had been a member of the Westport United Congregational Church, where she had been a member of the Board of Deacons, and had served as Church Treasurer, and of the Original Congregational Church in Wrentham, where she volunteered as one of the “Kitchen Elves”, and as a member of the Prayer Shawl Committee.

She was active in the Community at Pond Meadow where she lived, and was involved in many of the community social activites. She was a member of the Sewing Group, and the Book Club at Pond Meadow. She had made Wrentham her home since 2002. She was interested in writing and was a member of Word by Word, a writing group to which she belonged in Foxboro. She also enjoyed the notoriety of being a self published author, having published three books, all of which she had very much enjoyed writing.

Lois is survived by loving children and was the dear mother of Joan and her husband Richard Shirley of Wrentham, Carl and his wife Deborah Simon of St. Augustine, FL, Keith and his wife Carrie Simon of Swansea, Ken and his wife Marilyn Simon of Cumberland, RI, and Barry and his fiancé Patty of Middleboro, MA.

She was the dear sister of the late Everett Pettey, Florence Lawton, and Verna Tilton, and was the loving and devoted grandmother of Shawn, Joseph, Michael, Timothy, and Christina Simon, and was the aunt of several nieces and nephews.
