Our yard is a mini-preserve, aimed at birds, but also encompassing many small mammals. Lots of bird houses like this one, bird feeders, open space, and two sources of water. Our joy is that most years we have bluebirds nesting successfully in our yard. I love seeing the house wren with the spider, ready to feed the spider to its young in the birdhouse below.
