The original photo had a lot of clutter in the background. I saw Albrecht Durer's owl, and thought I'd like to try to duplicate that. I created a blank, cream-colored canvas and added a water color paper-like texture to it. Then I processed the owl as I would any photo and selected the owl and a portion of the branch from the original photo (very tedious) and pasted it onto the canvas. I copied the owl layer, then went to work on the top one: two artistic filters were used, plus a few tweaks here and there. Then I erased where the eyes were so the real eyes (unprocessed) showed.
